At FPS we are deeply committed to all members of the community being able to worship and be a part of services. There is a Yellow Shabbat Play Box and carpet laid out at the back of all our services for families to use. Although children are always welcome to all our services we do hold designated Family Services that are particularly aimed at the needs of our youngest members.
Shabbat B’Yachad
First Shabbat morning of the Month a family service with Kol Kulanu musicians. We use a special siddur and encourage our children to join the musicians if they play an instrument. We have an interactive sermon and the children are often invited onto the Bimah to be part of the Torah Service and accompany the scroll to the reading desk. It is a full Shabbat morning service but with a more informal style. All very welcome.
Shabbatots
Second Shabbat morning of the month 10am to 11am. This is a special service for our tiniest members. A very musical and noisy shortened Shabbat service with Kiddush at 11am. Babies and all children very welcome. Bring your own instruments, shakers and any percussion you have DIY or otherwise. Music is led by Gideon Lyons with Rabbi Rebecca.
Play and Learn
Third Shabbat morning of the month is a craft based session that runs through the middle of the service. Children are invited to come out with their parents and join an activity that reflects and echoes themes of the Torah portion or the nearby Chagim. The children begin and end the service with the rest of the congregation. This activity is particularly aimed at 3-6 year olds.
Youth Service
Third Shabbat morning of the month there is a Youth Service aimed at 7 year olds and older, an alternative to the main service. There is often learning and activity based worship in these services. Again the children begin and end with the main congregation.
Friday Evenings
All our Friday evening services are very welcoming to children and families. Our B’nei Mitzvah class often lead parts of the prayer and visiting children are always included.
