A Letter from Mogilev
Dear John,
We are so happy to learn about the twinning between Mogilev Reform community “Keshet” and FPS.
We would like to introduce ourselves so that you could know more about our community and the activities that are conducted in it.
Reform community “Keshet” was founded in Mogilev in 1994. There are 150 members in the community. These are the people belonging to different generations. We are glad to propose them different religious, communal, cultural, and educational and youth programs and projects.
Shabbat in the community, holidays and our traditions give the Jews the feeling of being a part of the Jewish community.
Also in the year 1994 the day kindergarten “Alef” started to operate in the community. This is a group, comprising children from 3 till 6 years old, was established on the basis of the state kindergarten. The group includes from 12 to 17 children. Every day the kids are provided with transportation in the morning as well as in the evening.
Our Jewish program in the kindergarten: culture, traditions, holidays are presented in the form of exciting game studies. Developmental center was created. Manuals and games had been worked out. As far as possible we are supporting families with foodstuffs, second-hand clothes. There are children in the group who have health problems. We are doing our best trying to provide them with medical consultations.
Annually Bar/Bat Mitzvah program is preparing about 10 children for the ceremony, which is led by Rabbi Grisha Abramovich.
Youth club “NeTzeR” is made of 25 participants of the age from 14 to 17. Active youth, taking part in the community’s life, are going to Vitebsk International Festival “Purimshpil”. The paint shop, comprising 15 kids, is operating in the community. The children are getting accustomed to the Jewish knowledge through Art. The studies are conducted on Sunday in the community building.
Two musical ensembles, “Avira” and ‘Hazmana’, are founded on the basis of the community. “Avira” is the instrumental ensemble and “Hazmana” is the vocal one.
Musicians-professionals make people happy and create the festive atmosphere during the holidays, joining to the Jewish culture the members of the community as well as the citizens of the town.
Best regards,
Mila Isakson
